Featuring the original works of Gertrude Huotari of Glendive, Montana.
"Gert" is a Glendive native, having been raised on her great-grandmother's homestead.
She is a Montanan first and foremost and loves the freedom and open spaces that eastern Montana has provided
her entire life.
She began her pursuits in art in 1973 by painting on fine china and porcelain bisque. In 1984 she
started painting wildlife and birds on slabs of Montana agate, which turned out to be a popular art form and
developed into a thriving business effort. In 1992 she started experimenting with watercolor, and
developed many watercolor paintings of wildlife, landscapes and floral arrangements that she has since
reproduced as prints and greeting card sets.
Gert is affiliated with the Dawson County Arts Unlimited Gallery in Glendive, Montana, and
the Mondak Heritage Art Association in Sidney, Montana. She has served on the Board of Directors for DCAU and she is
an active displaying artist at The Gallery in Glendive and the Woolhouse Gallery in Miles City, Montana. She has
participated in many juried shows throughout eastern Montana and has many "Peoples Choice" and "Best of Show" awards
to her credit.
