Featuring the original works of Erma Mast of Glendive, Montana.
Erma was born near Round Hill, Alberta, Canada, where she grew up on a farm
with four sisters and one brother. She attended a country school by the name of "Grand Forks" and recalls
that there were times when the school would be filled with some 40 students from grades 1-8. She is a retired
teacher, having taught elementary school students at Jefferson School in Glendive for over 21 years.
Her artistic career started when she was young as she would always draw in pencil.
One day while walking through town she passed a store with windows full of brightly colored paintings
and it suddenly occurred to her that if she had paints, she could paint those too. At this she embarked on her
painting career. Her father used to save wallboards and cut them into rectangles for her to use as her canvases.
Erma works primarily in oils, but has also explored acrylics and watercolors. Her subjects
are often whimsical scenes of children at play or scenes of the farm life she remembers as a child.
