Featuring the original photography and graphical artwork of Rick Utgaard of Glendive, Montana.
Rick is a native of Glendive, Montana. Since he started working for his present company
he has lived in the Twin Cities, Minot, Mandan, and Bowman, North Dakota, as well as Culbertson, Billings, and Helena,
Montana before returning home to Glendive.
Rick notes that it isn’t until you leave Glendive that you truly learn to appreciate it.
He has taken pictures ever since he could afford a camera. He's not sure he would consider himself
an "artist" in the normal sense, but he likes to think of the world around him as a huge pie and by taking
pictures he is able to preserve a small slice of it.
Rick's friends and family members give him a bad time about taking all the pictures
that he does, yet until recently nobody ever got to see that many of them. With the Internet that isn’t a
problem anymore. Today, people can be anywhere in the world and if they have access to the Internet,
they can view his photos on-line. Not only can people view pictures of someone they know or are related
to on his web site, but also anyone serving
in the military overseas can get a taste of being "back at home" when they are so far away. All of his photo
galleries may be seen on his main site at MonDakPhoto.com.
Rick never really attended any formal training in photography. He believes that in the
digital world if a person takes enough pictures that some are bound to turn out well. It wasn’t until his nieces
started playing indoor sports such as volleyball and basketball that he began to make major investments in
his camera equipment. Rick notes that anyone who takes pictures in a gymnasium knows how difficult it can be.
Since he was taking pictures of his nieces participating in sports activities he decided he would take pictures
of everyone else as well, and so launched his speciality in sports photography and graphics.
Rick works with high resolution digital camera and imaging equipment and has recently
expanded his field of expertise in digital graphics through using tools such as Adobe Photoshop to create large format,
dramatic photo collages and posters of his sports subjects.
